Carlie Easterday
Exercise Science & Sports Medicine | Champion
Why did you decide to attend TCTC and what program did you participate in?
I never considered TCTC, but I was open to exploring the school on Career Day. When I came on Career Day, I liked Ms. Fonagy and the Exercise Science & Sports Medicine program felt like a fit for me. When I left, I texted my mom and said, I thinking I’m going to come to TCTC next year. She said, Go for it.
Talk a little about your experiences with students and staff at TCTC.
The staff is great. I had Mrs. Haught my junior year, and I chose calculus in my senior year. Although I didn’t need calculus, I wanted to have her again. It's also great being with students who all want to be here and who applied to attend this school. It's a great atmosphere.
Have you always been a high-achieving student academically? Obstacles? Motivation?
I was always in the gifted classes. When I was younger, and still now, I was big into reading. Math is probably the area where I am a bit weaker. Calculus has been challenging this year, but I’m a perfectionist, and I like to push myself.
What would you tell someone considering TCTC?
Come here! I always tell people to come and visit, at least for Career Day. Even if you don’t think you’ll come here as a student, sign up and explore the options available to you. I never planned on coming here. All it took was one visit, and I changed my mind.
What are your plans for the future?
After graduation, I will attend Kent State University for Sports Medicine. I want to become an orthopedic surgeon. In the long term, I hope to volunteer as a humanitarian aid.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I’m proud of achieving valedictorian at Champion. There are a lot of students with 4.0 there. I came to Champion as a freshman from a smaller school, and it was more competitive at Champion.
If you had the choice to do it over again, would you choose TCTC?
Oh yeah. Definitely. Before I came to TCTC, I had no clue what I wanted to do. My original plan was to become an English teacher, and TCTC completely changed everything for me. It helped me find something that I was passionate about.

Construction Technology | Lordstown
Why did you decide to attend TCTC and what program did you participate in?
I wanted to try something new and felt like it would be a good idea since I want to pursue a career in the construction industry. I think it was shortly after coming here for Career Day in 10th grade that I realized TCTC is probably something I should do.
Talk a little about your experiences with students and staff at TCTC.
Overall it’s been good. I haven’t met anyone that I was unhappy with. Everyone that I met here was excellent, kind, and supportive.
What resources or people did you appreciate during your time here?
I appreciate my Construction Technology teacher. He’s taught me a lot throughout the years. I also appreciate my math teacher, Mrs. Haught. She pushed me to go further and was very supportive.
Have you always been a high-achieving student academically? Obstacles? Motivation?
Yes, I can remember taking my academics seriously since 6th grade. My biggest challenge recently has probably been math with Mrs. Haught, but my mindset is to try my best to achieve all that I can.
What would you tell someone considering TCTC?
I think it can be a great experience for someone who wants to enter their program’s career field. TCTC is a good idea and it can give you a headstart. If you are thinking about it, you should do it.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to work in the construction field. Eventually, I would like to become a gunsmith.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is probably earning valedictorian.
If you had the choice to do it over again, would you choose TCTC?
Yes.

Dental Assisting | Lordstown
Why did you decide to attend TCTC and what program did you participate in?
I came for 8th-grade tours and Career Day in 10th grade. I toured the Dental Assisting program both times. It was something that I was interested in, and it stuck with me. In 10th grade, I decided to apply for the Dental Assisting program. I was accepted so I came!
Talk a little about your experiences with students and staff at TCTC.
It’s been good. Everyone is very nice here. If you need help, TCTC has a lot of people who can help in any circumstance. It’s a big difference from my homeschool simply because of size.
What resources or people did you appreciate during your time here?
Mrs. Woods! I also like using the iPads to learn. The technology available here at TCTC and the advanced dental technology in our lab has been a big help in preparing for my career.
Have you always been a high-achieving student academically? Obstacles? Motivation?
Yes, I always had good grades. Math is typically my best subject, but last year, I took precalculus and trigonometry with Mrs. Haught – that was pretty challenging. My grades had always been good so I just kept striving to keep them up.
What would you tell someone considering TCTC?
I’d say try it! You can take a week or two at the beginning of the year to see if you like it and you can always change your mind.
What are your plans for the future?
I will continue to work in a dental office for a few years and then I will apply to Case Western Reserve for their Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) program.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Definitely valedictorian.
If you had the choice to do it over again, would you choose TCTC?
Yes.
